Jason P. Wheeler – Director, Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students

Jason P. Wheeler (he/him) serves as the Director of the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, a joint initiative of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth. In this role, he leads statewide efforts to build the capacity of schools and districts to create safe, inclusive, and affirming learning environments for LGBTQ students. With a background rooted in social justice and equity, Jason’s career centers on addressing systemic barriers in education and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. He has extensive experience developing policies, training educators, and fostering partnerships that promote belonging and student well-being. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, Jason works to ensure every student can learn and thrive in a school community free from discrimination.
