Shani Turner–Assistant Professor and Parent Coach, William James College; Strength in Families

Shani Turner, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology Department at William James College, where she directs the PATHWAYS Program and the African & Caribbean Mental Health Concentration. Her work focuses on culturally grounded parenting practices, identity development, and the emotional wellbeing of Black, African, and Caribbean youth. Dr. Turner is a scholar and parent coach with extensive experience helping caregivers navigate identity-based stress through strengths-based, family-centered strategies. She is also the founder of Strength In Families, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering caregivers through culturally responsive parent coaching. Dr. Turner integrates parent coaching with culturally anchored clinical approaches to support caregivers in fostering confidence, pride, and emotional safety in their children.
